On the Side - The Day Laborers & Rain
Grass seems greener when you’re greedy as hell,
I’ve got a little on my plate and I’m fine.
Sounds a lot like truth.

There are few musicians I respect more that Yo-Yo Ma. There’s nothing like watching musicians who obviously love what they do. ^_^
Word has been spreading that Adele has gone vegetarian and been working out with her new boyfriend. I read the comments section of the article and got so mad that I felt the need to write.
Adele’s size has always been discussed. Since I first fell in love with “Chasing Pavements”, I noticed that…
TRUTH.
…my good friend James has done something fantastic with his Tumblr page. He’s spent the last two months highlighting black characters and women characters in comics in honor of Black History Month and Women’s History Month, respectively. Some characters are favorites of his, while others he discovered during his research. I don’t believe that appreciation of these characters (and the way they are profiled here profiled) should be relegated to any specific time period. So take a look these character profiles (here and here). You may rediscover old favorites, or be inspired to find the comics of “new” characters. Enjoy!
Women’s Superhero History Month, Day 30: Medusa.
For my final entry in Women’s Superhero History Month, I wanted to focus on a character close to my heart.
As some of my friends both in real life and on Facebook know, one of my absolute favorite superheroes in all of comicdom is the King of the Inhumans, Black Bolt. The essence of the “strong, silent type” as much as a perfect example of Marvel Comics’ superpowers-as-curse, even more than Rogue or the Hulk, Blackagar Boltagon (best real name ever) is easily one of the most powerful beings in the universe. With a voice that at a whisper can level mountains, he must wield his great power with great responsibility, or like the sword of a master samurai warrior: always sheathed, rarely drawn, and never done in anger. His retinue must be cautious with their humor, lest he laugh, and he must meditate before sleeping, lest he mumble in his slumber. So, how does one rule a people as its king when one cannot make the slightest sound? Let’s just say that the queen, Medusa, is much more than simply his wife.
A being of immense power in her own right, a single strand of Medusa’s hair is like unto a thing of iron, razor sharp, and she is able to increase its length and control its every movement, allowing her to use it to lift objects of immense weights. In addition to this, and perhaps most crucial, is her bond with Black Bolt. Her understanding of his body language, sign language, moods and temper borders on the telepathic, and without her he could not hope to rule (or keep his insane brother Maximus at bay). And in his rare absences, she has proven herself a more than capable leader. Yet Medusa and Black Bolt exhibit one of the best couples in comics—along with Big Barda & Mister Miracle, and Apollo & the Midnighter—because of their virtual inseparability. They exist as two parts of one whole—she gives him a voice, he gives her strength—which is beautiful in its simplicity, but their partnership is bittersweet as well. Imagine a significant other, your companion for life, through sickness and in health, for richer or for poorer, till death do you part, who will never—nay, can never—compliment you on your eyes, tell you a joke, or sing you a song? Ever. To be with someone and to know that the sound of his voice will forever remain a mystery requires a boundless strength, an unfathomable understanding and unparalleled love. Fortunately, Medusa has plenty of all three.Until I read Paul Jenkins and Jae Lee’s INHUMANS 12-issue maxiseries, I didn’t fully understand just how badass Medusa (and Black Bolt) was. I can’t recommend it enough.
